Yarl Geek Challenge 3 Junior

Yarl IT Hub had a great response in conducting Yarl Geek Challenge’s Junior competition in Season 2. The season 3 of Yarl Geek Challenge, alike the previous season, came up with senior and junior category on 31st October 2014. It was a 3-day happening where the juniors were to work with mentors in developing their innovations. This season’s Junior category had almost 15 teams into the competition. There were teams from Jaffna Hindu College, Vembadi Girls’ High School, Karainagar Dr. Thiyagarajah Maha Vidyalayam and Velanai Central College.

Innovations were expected under the categories of hardware, mobile applications and web-based applications, and YIT was ready to award for the best product under each category along with the award for the overall winner. The teams were suppose to bring innovative products under hardware, mobile app and web app. The season was ready to award the best hardware, mobile app, web app and an overall winner.

The team from Jaffna Hindu College won the season’s title for its mobile app called inquirtime. The app was built up using ideamart.

The best hardware award went to Dr. Thiyagarajah Maha Vidyalayam for the hardware made using Ardiuno. The system will notify the house owner when there is a letter inside their letter-box.

The team from Vembadi Girls’ High School won the best mobile app award for its innovation on a product that will create awareness about Ebola.

Another team from Vembadi Girls’ High School won the best Web App award for designing a website to assist AL students.


The winners were awarded in a big ceremony on 2nd of November at the auditorium in Jaffna Public Library.
